Telehealth

What is Telehealth?

At Redlands Children’s Therapy Centre, we provide assessment and therapy services onsite as well as online through our telehealth services. Telehealth enables children and families who may have difficulty attending appointments in-clinic to attend sessions via videoconferencing to have access to assessment and intervention services from the comfort of their home, school or community.

Our telehealth Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists are trained in the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based telehealth services, providing intervention that mirrors the benefits of in-clinic sessions whilst offering greater flexibility and accessibility.

Why Choose Telehealth?

Telehealth offers a number of advantages for children and families, including:

  • Improved access to services
Telehealth is a valuable alternative to in-person sessions, particularly for families living in regional or remote areas, or for clients who may find it too challenging to attend in a clinic environment.
  • Convenience and time savings
Telehealth reduces the time needed for travel, as well as transportation and parking costs. It is a great option for families who cannot take time off work to attend clinic-based appointments with their children.
  • Continuity of therapy
When in-clinic sessions are not possible (due to availability, illness, or other constraints), telehealth allows for therapy to continue without interruption. This can improve outcomes and help your child to achieve their therapy goals more efficiently.
  • Therapy in natural environments
As sessions take place in more familiar settings, children often feel more comfortable and the therapist is able to see how they operate in their everyday environments.
  • Parent/caregiver involvement
Parents and caregivers can easily observe, participate and support their children during sessions. This model is also ideal to focus on parent/carer training, improving parent’s ability to support their children in their everyday interactions.
  • Flexible scheduling
Telehealth often enables more options for session times, making it easier to find a session time to suit your families needs.

Is Telehealth Right for My Child?

While telehealth is highly effective in many children, it may not be suitable for every child or every intervention. Factors to consider regarding telehealth:

  • The child’s attention, engagement, or ability to interact via screen
  • The severity or nature of the presenting difficulties
  • The caregiver’s capacity to assist during the session
  • The availability of supportive technology and environment

When telehealth is not the best option, we can offer in-clinic therapy (depending on availability), parent coaching and consultation, or referral to other suitable services.
